The Stage

Action plans bring an organisation’s vision into reality. Following higher-order planning, it is vital for organisations to put effective action plans in place: without action plans, valuable strategic planning efforts may be wasted. Organisations need action plans—or a “roadmap”—to powerfully communicate goals and provide clear directions. Effective action planning creates an environment in which individuals, teams, and organisations are better able to achieve their aspirations.

Note: This Management Brief is part of a series of three short Management Briefs on Strategic Planning and Deployment—each designed to encourage you to find out more about strategic planning by visiting and using BPIR’s Plan4Success strategic planning tool. This new tool, scheduled for launch in April 2009, will be available for use by all BPIR members. The tool is designed to enable individuals and organisations to develop strategic plans (at their own pace) from the vision stages through to the preparation of effective action plans.
