Kamo Home and Village rest home awarded “Bronze Award”

The New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation presented a Bronze award to Kamo Home and Village rest home at the annual gala luncheon on Wednesday 25 November.

The New Zealand Business Excellence Awards are fully aligned to the internationally respected and calibrated Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence.

Foundation Chief Executive Fiona Gavriel says, “We sincerely congratulate this year’s Award winner on successfully completing the rigorous and demanding evaluation process to achieve this world-class accolade – the achievement of which reflects an abiding focus on excellence in a challenging operating environment.”

In receiving this Award, Kamo Home and Village becomes the first aged care provider to be recognised with an award since the New Zealand Business Excellence Awards commenced in 1993.

Brett Marsh, Business Excellence Foundation Chairman and General Manager of Gold Award-winner Spectrum Care, says: “Providers within the New Zealand health sector have begun to take a leadership role in the Business Excellence community and, in the process, started role-modelling their commitment to the communities they support.

“Kamo Home and Village has demonstrated just such an abiding commitment to the people they support and to organisational excellence, and New Zealand is well-served by their presence in the community, their leadership and the example they set for their peers.

“Award recipients such as Kamo Home and Village have been measured against an internationally validated set of performance criteria, and are now recognised as being of a world-class standard in the Business Excellence community and beyond…”

Kamo Home and Village’s General Manager, Zoe Berry, has found the journey to be one of aspiration and organisational honesty: “We continue to aim high and improve our ability to achieve our Vision of ‘Supporting people to keep quality in their lives’.”

“Our Business Excellence journey has helped us make enormous progress in terms of strategic and workforce development, leadership and quality, and supported a greater customer focus. Through this, it’s supported better outcomes for the people who use our services.

“This award is a significant milestone not only for Kamo Home and Village, but also for the people we support, their families and the aged care sector as a whole.”

Wintec awarded for ‘Commitment to Business Excellence’

The New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation also presented a ‘Recognition of Commitment to Business Excellence’ at its 2015 Awards luncheon.

Wintec is one of New Zealand’s largest institutes of technology, and a leading provider of high-quality vocational and professional education in the Waikato region and overseas.

Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers said, “We pride ourselves on being a leading institute of technology, with a commitment to continuous improvement.

“We’d been on a quality excellence journey for many years and, after receiving the New Zealand Business Achievement Award in 2012, we felt the time was right to have our quality processes and systems checked against international standards of world-class performance.

“The application and evaluation process for Business Excellence was hard work, but an extremely rewarding experience for all Wintec staff involved. On receiving this recognition, it has confirmed to us we’re on the right track and, most importantly, informed us of where we can make further improvements.

“We’re proud to be recognised for our commitment to Business Excellence.”
