The roots of Singapore Customs can be traced back to 1910 when the Government Monopolies Department was set up to collect duties on opium, alcoholic liquors and spirits. Over the decades, the department took on more responsibilities and our roles expanded. On 1 April 2003, Singapore Customs was reconstituted to assume the functions of trade facilitation, trade regulation and trade protection.
