Winners of the 3rd International Best Practice Competition
The 3rd International Best Practice Competitionwas held at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 24th/25th November.The winner of this event was Al Jazeera International Catering LLC, UAE with a best practice titled “SPEARS Methodology for Employee Empowerment and Inculcating Excellence”.

Runners up were Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), Singapore with a best practice titled “MPA Future Ready Project”, Hospital Plató, Spain with a best practice titled “Health Education Courses in the Street: A Service to the Citizen”, Dubai Police H.Q., UAE with a best practice titled “Virtual; Application”, YES Bank Ltd., India with a best practice titled “Customer Engagement through Social Media”.

BPIR service of the Month – Business Excellence Models
This area of the web-site allows users to navigate the databases through a choice of business excellence models (Malcolm Baldrige Model, EFQM Excellence Model, Singapore Quality Award Model, Canadian Framework for Business Excellence, and an overview generic model). Navigation via the models can be used to look at specific categories that correspond to areas within their organisation that have been identified as in need of improvement, or to specific areas of personal interest. Using the model categories to navigate will quickly and effectively lead the user to the information we have researched so far in relation to the areas in question..Click here to see a video clip on how to do it.

Sustainable Business – Walking the talk
After Caesars Entertainment, a US public gaming corporation, had reduced staff by more than 20% due collapsing revenues, employees began developing innovative ways to cut costs, reduce energy consumption and waste, and increase recycling. Once the volunteer effort had been recognised the firm seized the opportunity and created a full-fledged sustainability programme built upon what had been started. The sustainability programme became institutionalised across more than 50 of the firm’s properties. Managers were responsible for specific metrics such as energy reduction, customer impact and employee engagement through a carefully crafted scorecard. The company’s sustainability reputation also droving business value beyond cost cutting.
