3rd International Best practice Competition – Entries are now open | |
The 3rd International Best Practice Competition will be held on the 25th of November 2014 at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, United Arab Emirates. The winner in 2013 was the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (Singapore) and 2012, Curtin University (Australia). The Best Practice Competition encourages organizations to share their best operational and managerial practices, processes, systems, and initiatives and learn from the experience of others. It provides an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of individuals and teams that have been responsible for creating and/or managing the introduction and deployment of best practices. Have a think about what your organization does well, and submit your entry by 18 August 2014. If successful you will be asked to share your best practice in an 8 minute presentation. Winners will receive widespread media coverage. The Competition offers a unique opportunity to learn best practices from organisations from around the world! 3rd Global Benchmarking Award – Entries are now open | |
The 3rd Global Benchmarking Award will be held at the 9th International Benchmarking Conference, 3/4 December 2014, Orlando, Florida. The Global Benchmarking Network (GBN) launched the Global Benchmarking Award in 2012 with the winner being Watson Real Estate (New Zealand). In 2013 the winner was the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (United Arab Emirates). The Global Benchmarking Award encourages organisations to share how benchmarking (comparing and learning from others) is an integral part of their improvement and innovation drive. Entering the award is easy. It requires a short written application of the organisation’s benchmarking approach followed by an 8 minute presentation at the GBN’s 9 International Benchmarking Conference. Featured Case Study: Strategic Partnering | |

Read the following sample case study: Ocean Spray To reduce transportation costs, delivery distances and CO2 emissions, Ocean Spray, a US growers cooperative, partnered with a competitor, Tropicana, to supply its markets in the Northeast US, Tropicana shipped orange juice by train from Florida to New Jersey and Tropicana was paying to send them back empty. One of Tropicana’s logistics suppliers realised that it and Ocean Spray, a cranberry juice maker based in Massachusetts who had a distribution centre in Florida to meet growing demands for its products in the southern US, could partner to fill the empty trains. The logistics supplier offered to set up a road-and-rail line for Ocean Spray that included a competitive price for Tropicana’s empty boxcars. After initial concerns about partnering closely with a chief competitor, the collaboration went ahead, and Ocean Spray cut its transportation costs by more than 40% and its greenhouse gas emissions by 65%. …..….read more case studies | ![]() |
Featured Survey Study: Lean manufacturing companies achieve better strategic consistency | |
A questionnaire-based mailed survey, sent to 500 manufacturing firms in the US, received 84 usable responses (33 from respondents in organisations that practised LM principles and 51 from respondents in conventional organisations). The results revealed that LM companies were more consistent than conventional companies in a) setting long term balanced goals and objectives; b) in recognising external environmental factors; c) building their core competencies to effectively deal with external environmental factors; d) aligning their competitive priorities with their goals and objectives; e) aligning their competitive capabilities with their competitive priorities; e) aligning their manufacturing objectives with their competitive priorities; f) placing a higher emphasis on fundamental organizational and human development manufacturing objectives; g) using a broad range of balanced performance measures that are aligned with organisational strategy. ….read more survey studies | ![]() |
