In mid-1994, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government Industry Department’s Quality Assurance Unit started organising 5-S training. 5-S is the combination of five Japanese words beginning with the letter "S": Seiri - structurise, Seiton - systematise, Seiso - sanitise, Seiketsu - standardise, Shitsuke - self-discipline.
