In December 2008 Republic Windows & Doors, a US producer of vinyl replacement windows, laid off 250 staff without any severance pay. As a result the workers staged a sit-in strike. The strike became a major embarrassment for the company and its creditor, Bank of America (BoA), especially as BoA had earlier received a federal bailout of billions of dollars.
