St John's Regional Medical Centre, a 94-bed acute care hospital located in the Midwest of US carried out an improvement programme with a combination of TQM, benchmarking, and productivity in the human resource function. As a result of these efforts the hospital achieved a Hiring cycle time of 21, reduced from 69 days (average for industry for 1996 quoted as 22). The Human Resource FTEs to Total FTEs ratio for St John's was 1:120 (quoted in 1998 as above the industry 90th percentile)....
