To sell its commercial customers (e.g. restaurants) advertising space in specialised publications (e.g., restaurant guides) American Express, a US based Credit Card company implemented a relationship-billing programme which provided a demographic analysis of a given establishment's customers. Amex then used this information to sell the establishment advertising space targeted at the same demographic groups.
