To strengthen primary health care the Government of Indonesia established the Pencerah Nusantara Programme (PN) in 2012. PN specifically targeted women and youth, and consisted of groups of selected and trained health teams (GPs, dentists, nurses, midwives, community health workers and health observers) willing to devote themselves for 1 year to provide services to the people in the vast archipelago of Indonesia.
