Application/Key learning points: This research study presented a suite of KPIs for pre-hospital emergency care in Ireland. The study identified that response time does not affect patient outcomes for the majority of ambulance service users; therefore, it would not be logical to employ response time as the focus of measuring EMS system performance. The research identified that early recognition, appropriate treatment and timely transfer to hospital are highest ranked indicators for emergency care of cardiovascular diseases. This article provides well-rounded information on KPIs based ona review of literature from several healthcare settings.
