A financial measure. When liabilities are subtracted from assets, there is a fund balance. Also known as Net Worth, Retained Earnings or Net Assets, a Fund Balance is the difference between what is owned (Assets) and what is owed (Liabilities). The fund balance is a residual and not necessarily a cash amount.
