The New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation (NZBEF), and the Centre for Organisational Excellence Research (COER) announced two joint winners of the 4th New Zealand Best Practice Competition (NZBPC) 2023 in August 2023. The New Zealand Best Practice Competition encourages organizations to share their best operational and managerial practices, processes, systems, and initiatives and learn from the experience of others. The award’s criteria and judging system are aligned to the International Best Practice Competition.

Winners of the 2023 New Zealand Best Practice Competition:

Tuatahi First Fibre Limited, New Zealand

Best Practice Title: The Tuatahi Disc of Responsibility – Health and Safety Overlapping Duties Framework and Process

Description: The ‘Tuatahi Disc of Responsibility’ is an easy-to-use visual framework and decision tool which enables health and safety issues to be identified, communicated, and addressed when using contractors or staff that have overlapping or shared responsibilities.

Unipharm Health Manufacturing Co. Ltd., New Zealand

Best Practice Title: Unipharm’s Vertical Market Practice

Description: Unipharm’s best practice relates to its approach to selling its health products to high-end consumers, instead of engaging in price wars with competitors using similar products, and to implement precision-targeted sales to save unnecessary mass advertising cost. This was achieved through its vertical market practice of selling its products B2B (Business-to-business) with product distributors that could reach high-end consumers in the Chinese market (see Figure 2).
